The Problems With True-Conditional theories about Meaning
The relation between a sign to its intended meaning can be called"the theory or meaning of a sign. In this article, we will explore the challenges with truth-conditional theories of meaning, Grice's examination of the meaning of a speaker, and his semantic theory of truth. In addition, we will examine opposition to Tarski's theory truth.

Arguments against truth-based theories of significance
Truth-conditional theories regarding meaning claim that meaning is a function on the truthful conditions. But, this theory restricts significance to the language phenomena. The argument of Davidson is that truth-values do not always true. Therefore, we should be able to differentiate between truth-values as opposed to a flat assertion.
It is the Epistemic Determination Argument attempts to support truth-conditional theories of meaning. It relies on two essential assumption: the omniscience of non-linguistic facts, and understanding of the truth condition. But Daniel Cohnitz has argued against these premises. This argument therefore doesn't have merit.
Another problem that can be found in these theories is that they are not able to prove the validity of meaning. However, this problem is dealt with by the mentalist approach. Meaning is considered in ways of an image of the mind, rather than the intended meaning. For instance that a person may interpret the words when the person uses the exact word in multiple contexts, however, the meanings for those words could be identical for a person who uses the same word in both contexts.

Although most theories of significance attempt to explain concepts of meaning in relation to the content of mind, other theories are sometimes pursued. This could be because of skepticism of mentalist theories. They could also be pursued by people who are of the opinion that mental representations must be evaluated in terms of the representation of language.
Another major defender of this idea is Robert Brandom. He believes that the significance of a phrase is dependent on its social and cultural context and that speech activities related to sentences are appropriate in the setting in that they are employed. This is why he developed a pragmatics concept to explain sentence meanings through the use of the normative social practice and normative status.

Issues with Grice's analysis of speaker-meaning
Grice's analysis on speaker-meaning places significant emphasis on the utterer's intent and its relationship to the meaning that the word conveys. Grice believes that intention is an abstract mental state that must be understood in order to grasp the meaning of sentences. However, this theory violates speaker centrism by looking at U-meaning without M-intentions. Furthermore, Grice fails to account for the fact that M-intentions are not limitless to one or two.
Moreover, Grice's analysis does not account for certain essential instances of intuition-based communication. For example, in the photograph example previously mentioned, the speaker does not clarify whether he was referring to Bob or to his wife. This is problematic since Andy's photo does not reveal the fact that Bob or wife is not loyal.
While Grice is correct that speaker-meaning is more fundamental than sentence-meaning, there's still room for debate. In actual fact, this distinction is crucial to the naturalistic credibility of non-natural meaning. Grice's objective is to present naturalistic explanations for such non-natural significance.

To understand a message it is essential to understand the speaker's intention, which is a complex embedding of intentions and beliefs. We rarely draw sophisticated inferences about mental states in regular exchanges of communication. Therefore, Grice's model of speaker-meaning is not compatible with the actual psychological processes involved in language understanding.
While Grice's story of speaker-meaning is a plausible explanation that describes the hearing process it's only a fraction of the way to be complete. Others, including Bennett, Loar, and Schiffer, have created deeper explanations. However, these explanations can reduce the validity that is the Gricean theory, since they see communication as an act that can be rationalized. It is true that people believe that what a speaker is saying as they can discern the speaker's purpose.
In addition, it fails to provide a comprehensive account of all types of speech act. Grice's analysis fails to acknowledge the fact that speech acts are commonly used to clarify the significance of a sentence. This means that the value of a phrase is reduced to the meaning of its speaker.

Problems with Tarski's semantic theories of truth
While Tarski said that sentences are truth bearers But this doesn't imply that it is necessary for a sentence to always be correct. Instead, he aimed to define what constitutes "true" in a specific context. His theory has become a central part of modern logic and is classified as correspondence or deflationary theory.
One problem with this theory on truth lies in the fact it cannot be applied to a natural language. This is because of Tarski's undefinability theory, which declares that no bivalent language is able to hold its own predicate. Even though English may seem to be an in the middle of this principle but it does not go along in Tarski's opinion that natural languages are semantically closed.
However, Tarski leaves many implicit constraints on his theory. For example the theory cannot contain false statements or instances of the form T. That is, a theory must avoid that Liar paradox. Another issue with Tarski's doctrine is that it's not consistent with the work of traditional philosophers. In addition, it's impossible to explain every aspect of truth in the terms of common sense. This is a major challenge to any theory of truth.

Another issue is that Tarski's definition for truth demands the use of concepts taken from syntax and set theory. They are not suitable when looking at endless languages. Henkin's approach to language is well-established, but it does not support Tarski's concept of truth.
In Tarski's view, the definition of truth also an issue because it fails reflect the complexity of the truth. In particular, truth is not able to serve as a predicate in an analysis of meaning, the axioms of Tarski's theory cannot describe the semantics of primitives. Furthermore, his definition of truth is not in line with the notion of truth in theory of meaning.
However, these issues are not a reason to stop Tarski from using an understanding of truth that he has developed and it doesn't conform to the definition of'satisfaction. Actually, the actual definition of truth is less straight-forward and is determined by the particularities of object languages. Problems with Grice's analysis of sentence-meaning
The problems with Grice's analysis of meaning of sentences can be summarized in two fundamental points. One, the intent of the speaker has to be understood. Second, the speaker's utterance must be supported by evidence demonstrating the intended result. These requirements may not be observed in every instance.
This problem can be solved by changing the analysis of Grice's sentences to incorporate the significance of sentences which do not possess intentionality. The analysis is based upon the idea the sentence is a complex entities that have a myriad of essential elements. Thus, the Gricean analysis doesn't capture oppositional examples.

This particular criticism is problematic in light of Grice's distinction between meaning of the speaker and sentence. This distinction is the foundational element of any account that is naturalistically accurate of the meaning of a sentence. This theory is also vital for the concept of conversational implicature. This theory was developed in 2005. Grice offered a fundamental theory on meaning, which was elaborated in later documents. The basic notion of meaning in Grice's work is to consider the intention of the speaker in determining what message the speaker is trying to communicate.
Another issue with Grice's theory is that it doesn't take into account intuitive communication. For example, in Grice's example, it's not entirely clear what Andy refers to when he says Bob is unfaithful towards his spouse. Yet, there are many different examples of intuitive communication that are not explained by Grice's study.

The principle argument in Grice's method is that the speaker has to be intending to create an emotion in those in the crowd. But this isn't in any way philosophically rigorous. Grice fixes the cutoff point in relation to the indeterminate cognitive capacities of the communicator and the nature communication.
Grice's explanation of meaning in sentences doesn't seem very convincing, though it is a plausible version. Other researchers have created more elaborate explanations of meaning, but they are less plausible. In addition, Grice views communication as a rational activity. The audience is able to reason by recognizing the message of the speaker.
